Happy Saturday! One of the best ways to end the week is knowing that all of your big projects are coming to a close. While I am usually quick to jump onto my next plan, I am making an active effort to slow down and enjoy the feeling of a job well done. My Spring & Summer garden for this year has finally been planted and all that is left to do is to give it lots of love, water, and sunshine. I am still new when it comes to gardening and it can be daunting to figure out the details with all of the different plants and needs. Fortunately, I have found all sorts of resources from books to fellow Substackers who have helped me navigate having a flourishing garden. I planted potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, marigolds, cucumbers, wildflowers, basil, thyme, and oregano. Previously, I have only grown herbs and leafy veggies like spinach, lettuce, kale, arugula, and broccoli. This is my first time growing larger produce like zucchini and peppers, but I am very excited! Incorporating seasonal veggies is a great way to get in more nutrients, and I look forward to creating seasonal dishes to share with all of you. Whether you are a home gardener too or pick up your produce from the grocery store or farmers market, you will still get the benefits that come from eating in-season produce!
Oh, and did I mention that I named my garden The Flourish Garden? Flourish means to grow or develop in a healthy way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment. Just as I want my garden to flourish, I want all of us in the grace & greens community to flourish too! Each time I am writing a recipe, a resource, or an article, I always have this in mind. I want you to be able to set your environment up to work for you, instead of against you. I want you to be able to fuel your body with nourishing foods and healthy habits that will enable you to show up as the best version of yourself. Now, let’s get into this week’s guide.
